I have seen this touched upon in forum after forum...where can I find out more information regarding this elusive thing known as "financial core"? It sure as hell is not covered on the SAG website! LOL! And does anyone know how FC affects future stuntwork in films? Thanks for the de-mystifying of this topic!
SAG doesn't want anyone to know about FC. It's a way around union policy, which doesn't make anybody in the union happy. But if you plan to stick around NE, it might be best to join. You've probably seen posts around here about it. You can go from SAG to FC, but not FC to SAG. Once you join FC, you can't go SAG.
I know a few actors that are FC, and they are doing pretty well for themselves in the B to C range of movies.
I have done some digging and have found a wealth of knowledge on the subject- Seems too good to be true- If you are FC and work on a SAG project, do they have to pay you non-union wages?
Yup. I think that's how it goes. FC always get at least SAG-minimum (both on union sets, and non-union).
Of course there is an odd loophole I was told...which I think they are trying to close. If you want to work pro bono for an indie production, and they can't afford to pay you...you can have them pay you SAG-minimum, cash the check, and give it back to them either as a gift, or as investment. This way...they can use you for free, and you might even get a producers credit...that's if you want credit as a producer. Personally, I wouldn't want that credit as an actor...I'd rather not have people even think I scored a roll because I'm investing. I guess it doesn't matter, screw whoever assumes...but it's best just to keep it on the down low.
I'm going way off topic here. OK.
Not sure how SAG likes that idea of gifts or investments to get around paying a union person...probably break my legs if they heard I was spreading ideas like this.
