A short film produced by Breaking Branches Pictures and Image Theater
screenplay by Jerry Bisantz
Directed by Christian de Rezendes
Synopsis:
Sid Freedman, an aged comedian and the surviving partner of "The Freedman and Cohen Comedy Hour" from the late 1950's "hey days" of television, is writing his memoirs with the aid of a young writer from Lowell, MA named Charlie O'Neil.
Sid's dream of publishing glory is put on hold when, at the eleventh hour, he learns that the book will not go to print unless Sid reveals uncomfortable facts about his past that he would rather leave buried.
The film uncovers the intense discrimination against gay men in an era when "McCarthy-istic" atitudes pervaded the entertainment industry.
Memories For Sale will shoot over a two day period in late August or early September. It will take place in Lowell, MA
These are all paid roles
Memories for Sale is being produced with the support of a generous grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council
Character breakdowns:
Sid Freedman: actor must be believeable as a mid - 70 year old Jewish comedian (think Jack Benny, Mel Brooks, Milton Berle... the greats) Funny and sad at the same time, Sid has a strong spine and stands by his convictions. He is no pushover.
Charlie O'Neil: mid 30's Charlie has been a ghostwriter for years, this is his "big chance" to share billing with a known name. He is affable, warm, Charlie and he have a wonderful relationship (almost a father -son thing) He respects Sid and feels dirty about persuading him to sill the beans on his past. He desperately needs this book, as he and his wife have a child on the way and need the money.
Bruce Halperin: Publishing agent mid 30's. A take no prisoner, money is all kinda guy. Sees Sid and sees dollar signs. No more, no less.
Rachel: mid 20's to early 30's: Sid's grandaughter. Sharp dresser, very "New York". Knows of her grandfather's past. Wants what is best for him.
